Cruising Gold Coast Chevron Island Canals in Your LAGEE Pontoon Boat

Category: | Author: la_admin | Date: March 20, 2026

If you’re looking for an exciting adventure in your LAGEE pontoon boat, the Gold Coast, home to more canals and waterways than Venice, is a true boatie’s paradise. So where should you start? Try the Chevron Island canals! Nestled in the Nerang River, Chevron Island is a small residential area surrounded by canals, which are ideal for kayaking, fishing, pontooning, and it’s just minutes from Surfers Paradise.

Action on the Chevron Island Canals

Whether you’ve customised your LAGEE pontoon boat for fishing or opted for a luxe entertaining vessel, the Chevron Island Canals are a great option! The waterways are lined with stunning homes and high-rise apartments, with over 400 kilometres of water to explore. If you want a calm spot that is still close enough to the action, you can tie your boat off at Budds Beach, further along the Nerang River. If you want to stick to fishing, float under the bridges of Chevron Island, where the waters are teeming with bream.

While the waters are calm enough for swimming, you should only swim in patrolled areas where it’s safe.  Of course, you can also float past Millionaire’s Row for a closer look at some of the most incredible houses in the area.

You can launch your pontoon boat from Main Beach, or check out the Boating Facility Location Map for more public ramps. The pontoon areas are wide enough for safe turning, unlike narrower parts of the canals, where turning will be a challenge, especially during peak season.

If you’re a fishing enthusiast, one of the most popular fishing spots on the canals is located near the Korman Family Park platform. Familiarise yourself with the tides because while the Chevron Island canals are sheltered, the tide (and wind) can affect your navigation in the more open areas.

Tips For a Successful Day On the Waterway

The great thing about pontoon boats is that they’re designed to ride higher on the water, so they create much less boat wash than V-hull boats. This protects the canal banks from damage and causes less disturbance to moored boats. Always stick to the canal speed limit and watch out for low bridges.

The calmest, quietest water can be found in the early morning hours as the sun rises, so if you’re looking for tranquillity, you should get up with the birds. Alternatively, sunset delivers stunning views of the city skyline. Boat traffic will be heavier, but the scenes are worth it.

Looking for activities to enjoy from the comfort of your pontoon boat? In addition to fishing and cruising, many pontoon boaters enjoy drifting as they read, stopping to jump off the back and swim, listening to music, barbecuing, and entertaining. Fitted with plush seating and a spacious and very stable deck, pontoon boats are ideal for a day on the water. Take the kids and the pets – and don’t forget to bring gear for water skiing!

Always ensure your first aid kit is fully stocked before setting off and that everyone on board is wearing life jackets. If you’re new to pontooning, check out the Queensland Government’s handy boating safety guide.
